Citizens urge government not to tax basic commodities at borders

Citizens in Torit are calling on the government not to charge essential goods such as food and medicines at the borders to reduce the suffering of its people.
 
One of the consumers describes his situation as desperate, Radio Emmanuel reports.
 
He wonders where the country is heading to because prices keep increasing every day.
 
The citizen calls on everybody to embark on agriculture.
 
He encourages people to do irrigation to increase production.
 
One of the traders says prices will continue going higher as long as the exchange rates for US Dollars keep increasing.
 
He urges consumers to bear with the situation until the exchange rate goes down.
 
Torit markets have never experienced decrease in commodity prices even on days that the US Dollar exchange rate went down.
 
On Thursday, 50 kilograms of maize flour was over 1,000 South Sudanese Pounds.
