International Organization for Migration or IOM is teaming up with health agencies to vaccinate vulnerable people against measles in South Sudan.

The campaign targets children less than five years in the UN Protection of Civilians sites following several suspected cases of measles in Bentiu and Malakal.

The campaigns vaccinated nearly over 45 thousand children in Bentiu and seven thousand children in Malakal.

The success of these campaigns is due to intensive social mobilization, effective collaboration and leadership of the health cluster, says Dr Andrew Mbala IOM Health Emergency Coordinator.

Dr Mbala says IOM Health Rapid Response Team is currently in Yirol East and West Counties to vaccinate 46,900 children under five against measles.

The Health Cluster and the national Ministry of Health reported 1,321 suspected measles cases in 2016.

IOM is providing regular vaccinations against tuberculosis, cholera and polio at its Primary Health Care Centres in Bentiu, Malakal and Renk.
