Dozens of women leaders who fled violence in Wau County are holding a forum under the theme: ‘The role of women in decision making and peace building’.
The meeting which is funded by UNMISS Civil Affairs department aims to evaluate the effects of the conflict in the area, Voice of Hope reports.
The women demand the transitional government to reconstruct the institutions, including schools and health centers destroyed by conflict.
Mustafa Tijang Kele, UNMISS Civil Affairs team leader, says the women gathered to identify issues affecting their communities and how to address them.
He believes that people need to understand the root causes of the conflict in order to contribute meaningfully to deal with them.
Tijang mentions lack of basic service delivery to citizens as one of the causes of conflict in the country.
Angelina Anthony Ubur, Wau State Minister of Local Government, says it will be difficult for the IDPs to return home without their children accessing schools and other services.
The women hold government and SPLA-IO forces responsible for the destruction of the institutions in their area.
