The European Union or EU Council calls on the Transitional Government of National Unity or TGONU to urgently address the situation of the millions of internally displaced persons and refugees.

It expresses concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation and the suffering of the people of South Sudan.

The Council urges the government to ensure that the resources are used responsibly for the recovery of the country for the benefit of all South Sudanese.

It supports Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD’s idea for the suspension of twenty eight states until the formation of a Boundary Commission.

The Council rejects persistent violence and restrictions on the access of humanitarian and civil society organizations which continue to hinder operations.

It calls on the Transitional Government to allow and facilitate full and safe provision of charitable aid to all those in need.

The Council pledges to cooperate with South Sudan’s neighbors and international partners to support the Transitional Government in implementing the agreement.

It underlines the need for effective implementation of its arms embargo on South Sudan by countries that have aligned with the ban.

The Union remains ready to consider further sanctions against any individual who obstructs the peace process in South Sudan.
