Around seven thousand South Sudanese fled to Western Kordofan due to severe food shortages, said the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Sudan.

The OCHA report described the situation of refugees in El Meiram as very poor as they have not received food assistance since arrival.

It said authorities cited concerns about distributing food to only South Sudanese refugees as local populations are also highly vulnerable.

The refugees are from Northern Bahr al Ghazal and Warrap driven by the conflict and food insecurity resulting from poor harvests.

South Sudanese refugees lack resources to pay for the services and some health facilities need support, the report said.
