South Sudan is on Saturday joining the globe in celebrating World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in Juba.
The event will be a week-long series of activities organized as part of UNESCO’s unite for heritage campaign.
It aims to promote unity, flexibility and the peaceful resolution of conflicts among individuals and communities in South Sudan.
The Day will witness a visual display of South Sudanese work of arts representing the country’s cultural history.
Celebrating cultural diversity means opening up new views for sustainable development, says Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO.
She adds that the Day also promotes creative industries and cultural entrepreneurship as sources of jobs worldwide particularly for young people and women.
Bokova says celebrating cultural diversity also means valuing an outstanding source of exchanges, innovation and recognizing that cultures are powerful force for uniting humanity in South Sudan.
