The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Yei River State on Tuesday handed over four tractors each to Yei, Lainya, Morobo and Kajo-Keji Counties.

One tractor was given to the municipality while three others are retained in the ministry for demonstration purposes, Radio Easter reports.

The aim of giving the tractors is to produce enough food, says Huda Micah Laila, State Minister of Agriculture.

She adds that committees would be formed to monitor the usage of the tractors.

Minister Huda calls on county commissioners to work with the local communities to properly and carefully use the tractors.

Local drivers and engineers were trained to help in the use and management, she adds.

On their part, Kajo-Keji County Commissioner, Julius Lokonga, says he and fellow commissioners will use the tractors to realize good harvest to fight hunger.

The 20 tractors are part of President Salva Kiir’s 1,000 donations to formerly ten states to embark on local food production.
