An SPLA veteran regrets reports that the army has allegedly committed human rights’ abuses against civilians in the country.

Lieutenant General Alfred Akwoc Abong says it is unfortunate for the army to turn against the population, Radio Bakhita reports.

General Akwoc was one of the officers in the battle in Bor on May 16, 1983.

The relationship between civilians and the army during the liberation days was generally friendly, he recalls.

He hopes that the different forces in the government and opposition will be unified.

May 16, is SPLA Day celebrated every year.
