The United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict urges authorities in South Sudan to implement commitments made to address crimes of sexual violence.
Zainab Hawa Bangura says crimes of sexual violence have continued to be committed in the context of the conflict.
In a statement after her four-day visit to Juba, the Representative urges government authorities to ensure accountability for the crimes.
She stressed that successful implementation of the agreement will require that crimes of sexual violence are monitored and tracked.
Bangura emphasizes that the crimes have to be reported and addressed in all transitional justice processes.
She affirmed support to the SPLA and National Police in developing Action Plans to provide a comprehensive framework to address crimes of sexual violence.
