The Transitional government has on Tuesday launched a five-year national action plan to protect woman’s rights as required by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.

Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Eugene Owusu, called on the authorities to show political will to implement the plan to bring justice to all women, Radio Bakhita reports.

Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare Awut Deng Acuil, says the government will exert efforts towards the success of the plan.

She says the document will help in bridging the gap between law enforcement agencies and rights defenders to ensure that women’s rights are respected.

UN Resolution 1325 was the first formal and legal document which required parties in a conflict to prevent violations of women’s rights and protect females from sexual abuse.
