Civil society should observe MPs performance, says Yakani

Civil society activist calls on his fellow colleagues in the country to attend sittings of Legislative Assemblies in the states to monitor and advocate for the public interests.

We should be there to see how our MPs are addressing the need of people and lobbying for the interest of the community, Edmond Yakani advises civil society organizations in Wau, Radio Voice of Hope reports.

He appeals to authorities to open sittings of the State Assembly for the activists to take their part for accountability to take root.

Viola Alexander Umeli, Deputy Speaker of Wau Assembly blames the civil society for ignoring their role in the parliament.

She assures them that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday sittings are opened to the public.

The two officials made the remarks at the end of Commissioners’ Conference on Saturday in Wau.
