The academic staff members of the University of Bahr El-Ghazal have announced a possible sit down strike next week over medical allowances and flight tickets.
Apugy Kulang Takpiny, the chairperson of the academic staff association says the Ministry of Higher Education in Juba has not paid their dues since last year, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
He declares that the staff members are laying down their tools next Monday.
Professor Kulang says the medical coverage should have been paid on instalment after every three months.
He complains that their salary has also been delayed for two months, prompting them to strike.
Professor Kulang says flight tickets which should have been paid every January were never paid.
Professors are entitled to a medical cover of about 7,000 and the assistant professors 6,000 South Sudanese Pounds each, the official says.
Other lecturers get about 4,000 South Sudanese Pounds as medical allowances, he says.
The official says they are in touch with Juba Administration for peaceful resolution of the matter.
Students have expressed fears that the strike will disrupt their academic affairs terribly.
