The newly created Wau State from Western Bahr El-Ghazal has declared six more new counties following President Salva Kiir’s order for creation of new counties in the controversial 28 states.
Wau State Governor, Elias Waya last Saturday declared that Wau would have eight counties in addition to Wau Municipality, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
He says the Council of States in Juba used 2008 Population Census as a standard to determine the new counties.
A Payam with a population of 30, 000 people make a county, he explains.
Jur River County has been divided into five counties now.
Wau County has been divided into three.
Governor Waya says the creation of the new counties makes development efforts easier.
The governor says communities should think about selecting strong leaders in the areas to become commissioners.
The Council of States in Juba recently limited the maximum number of counties for each state to be 12.
