The assistance along with the unbelievable spirit of women and children has kept people alive over the past two years, says UNICEF.

The agency says it cannot expect vulnerable children whose physical and mental health has been spoiled so much to live one more year in the conditions of starvation.

Currently half of the country’s population do not know where their next meal is coming from, says UNICEF in a statement.

Maintaining lifeline of relief aid remains a challenge with limited access to starving population, says Joyce Luma, the World Food Programme Representative in South Sudan.

Insecurity has further held back the delivery of aid, the agencies say.

Lack of funding has now forced some partners to shut down services, the UN agencies declare.

More than one million people including children have now received life saving assistance from UNICEF and WFP.

The agencies say the aid comes through 82 joint emergency missions to the conflict hardest-hit communities.
