Students at the University of Bahr El-Ghazal have been granted to form union after threatening to disrupt examinations.
The students argue that union is their legal demand, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
Professor Samson Wasara, the University Vice Chancellor in his address to the students declares permission for the union formation.
He says students were wrong to think of disrupting exams as the best way to achieve the union.
Professor Wasara says though the students’ union has been granted, the university law remains supreme in making decisions.
The union must not misuse the freedom given, he warns.
Students believe having the union in place reduces situation where students resort to use of violence to demand for their rights.
Though the union does not benefit the finalists, they feel happy about pioneering it, says Poni Catherine Gabriel, a fourth year student in the College of Education, Department of English and Literature.
The University of Bahr El-Ghazal which was established in 1991 has never been granted students’ union ever since.
