Traders and consumers in Yumbe District of Uganda bordering South Sudan have appealed to their National Bureau of Standards to punish those flooding their markets with what they call fake products from South Sudan.
Brahan Viga, one of the traders in Yumbe Town Council says a lot of fake goods from South Sudan are entering their area unchecked, The Daily Monitor reports.
Uganda National Bureau of Standards should establish an office in Yumbe to ensure citizens’ safety from unhealthy products, the trader says.
The fake products the trader is complaining about include natural honey from South Sudan.
The complaint comes at a time South Sudan President Salva Kiir is set to sign the treaty for joining into the East Africa Community for free trade among member states.
