UN organizes sports for peace and unity in South Sudan

United Nations agencies are organizing sports activities to promote peace and unity in South Sudan.
 
UNESCO Country Representative Salah Zaki Khaled told the press on Tuesday in Juba that the sport events are starting next Sunday.
 
The activities are expected to bring together National Olympics Committee, the protection of civilians’ site of Juba and UNMISS, he explains.
 
He added that young people will participate. 
 
From April 18-23, cultural events will take place in Juba UN camps, showcasing performances from different communities.
 
Khaled disclosed that UNESCO is building the national archive together with the government of Norway and the UN Office for Project Services.
 
A training held in partnership with the Egyptian government will start on April 19, he added.
 
He congratulated the government of South Sudan for the participation of six South Sudanese players to the next Rio Olympics.
