The SPLM Former Political Detainees or FPDs are urging the government and the SPLM/A-In-Opposition to resolve their disagreement on cantonment sites in Equatoria and Bahr El-Ghazal regions urgently.
General Madut Biar Yel, the Spokesperson of the Former Political Detainees says the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, JMEC should facilitate the resolution of cantonment sites in Equatoria and Bahr El-Ghazal as a matter of urgency.
The FPDs urge the government to release all political detainees especially former Governor of Western Equatoria, Colonel Joseph Bakosoro and Professor Leonzio Angole Onek of the University of Juba to create conducive environment for peace implementation.
They also ask the government to abolish the state of emergency previously declared in the country to create an atmosphere of peace and stability.
Stop the practice of arbitrary arrests without constitutional mandate, the group urges President Salva Kiir.
The FPDs have welcomed the signing of peace accord between the government and a liberation movement in Western Equatoria.
The permanent ceasefire must cover all armed groups fighting the government, they appeal.
