Abyei Administrative Area residents are happy with the opening of a new Magistrate Court by the Judiciary of South Sudan.
They believe the magistrate court will speed up trials of related crimes in the area, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
Agok Dau, one of the residents says they have been moving as far as Thuralei to have their cases heard.
But, as the new court opens, they will not move long the distance anymore, he says.
Biong Piang is the head of Abyei Legal Administration.
He says now that the area has got a Magistrate Court and a judge, residents could easily seek justice.
He says the initiative of having a first Magistrate Court in Abyei comes from the Judiciary of South Sudan to extend its services to the administrative area.
Abyei Administrative Area court will prosecute using South Sudan’s legal laws and any appeal will be forwarded to the High Court in Wau.
Piang says all murder cases that are pending in Thuralei will now be transferred to Abyei.
Andrew Joshua Ladu, The Court Magistrate Judge says dozens of cases which have been delayed in most police stations in Abyei will quickly be handled.
