The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS has extended logistical support for the clearance of an illegal trading zone nearby the pedestrian gate of Juba Protection of Civilians site 3.
The Inspector General of Police Service had earlier requested UNMISS to grant the tearing down of the trading zone in response to concerns raised by community leaders in the protection site.
The illegal trading zone poses a clear security threat to the Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs.
Criminal activity outside the Protection of Civilian sites and nearby vicinity had increased, the authorities observe.
The removal of shops was government-led operation carried out by the State Governor, Police and SPLA, UNMISS says.
