South Sudan is on Monday expected to join the world in commemorating International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba.

The day under the theme: ‘Mine Action is Humanitarian Action’ will also be marked in Bor, Duk Padiat, Jalhak, Kodok, Melut, Pagak, Kapoeta and Torit.

The International Day for Mine Awareness aims at raising awareness about landmines and the progress toward eradication.

The day also reminds people of the disturbing effects of landmines and other explosive remnants of war.

UN Mine Action Service South Sudan in partnership with the National Mine Action Authority will take part in the campaign.

The partners say linking mine action with humanitarian action promotes lifesaving elements of mine action work and role it plays for other humanitarian interventions.
