Payam Education Supervisors in Yei River County have identified unqualified teachers and limited text books as big contributors to poor academic performance in recent exams’ results.
Recent end of year primary school examinations’ results indicate about 1600 passed out of the 3,438 candidates, Radio Easter reports.
More than 1,700 candidates representing the majority failed.
Soroba Samuel, the Acting Primary Schools Supervisor in Otogo Payam says a recent assessment found out that teachers of primary eight classes are primary five dropouts.
Most schools lack text books for teaching upper primary classes, Samuel discloses.
Support the schools through training of teachers, School Management Committees and Parents Teachers’ Association or PTA, Victor Kujo; the Education Supervisor of Mugwo Payam begs non-governmental organizations.
Malish Clement, the Episcopal Church Education Training official says the church has been training PTA and School Management Committee members.
The revelation of the education plight in Yei comes during four-day training of head teachers, supervisors and mothers’ union members over the week.
