The President of the Republic issued a decree removing Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
In the decree read on South Sudan Television on Wednesday, President Salva Kiir did not give reasons for Dr Marial’s removal.
His removal comes shortly after the SPLM Former Political Detainees and Democratic Change party demanded his resignation or firing by President Kiir for referring to Dr Luka Biong as a Sudanese in a letter sent to the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva.
Dr Marial had denied making such a statement.
He told a press conference in Juba on Monday that Abyei as the land of nine Ngok Dinka Chiefdom is purely South Sudanese.
Dr Marial had been one of the longest serving officials in the government and even during the 21 years of SPLM liberation struggle.
