The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS on Thursday handed over to Western Lakes government Rumbek-Cueibet road after construction by Chinese Engineering Contingent.

The road will not only ease movement of the UN personnel and cargo, but supports humanitarian operations and market supplies, says Imad Aldo UNMISS representative.

UN OCHA representative Joyce Asha Francis appreciates UNMISS for easing humanitarian work by fixing Cuiebet and Wulu roads.

She observes that poor road network along Wulu, Rumbek North, Cueibet and Yirol West is a challenge to humanitarian services.

Stop road ambushes and allow movement of goods and humanitarian operations from Juba to Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Louis Agum Reuben, Western Lakes Deputy Governor urges the community.

He warns that the looming hunger requires fast movement of goods and services to reach the needy.

The road constructed by UNMISS connects Amadi, Western Lakes, Gok and Tonj States respectively.
