The national Ministry of Health in collaboration with partners is launching Meningitis A Campaign in Juba on Tuesday.

The vaccination will be conducted in two phases.

The campaign targets persons from 1 to 29 years old excluding pregnant women, says Anthony Benjamin Edu, the Consultant of World Health Organization.

He says the medicine has no major side effect.

Benjamin calls on South Sudanese to turn up to prevent an outbreak of meningitis or Abufarara as locally known.

Dr William Mbabazi, the Immunization Advisor says meningitis outbreak is normally in dry season, transmitted through the air.

Those who are sick, but able to walk are also advised to take the vaccine.

Meningitis is a deadly disease caused by bacteria.

It damages the brain severely, leaving survivors with serious health problems.

The vaccination is expected to take place in health facilities, schools, churches and Mosques.

The first phase of the vaccination will be carried out in Equatoria and Bahr El Ghazal regions from 15th to 25th of March.

The second phase will be in the Upper Nile region in later dates.
