Wau State Director for Quality Education and Promotion says private schools must focus more on improving the quality of education.

Gaspar Ali Saleh says majority of private schools do not meet the standard required by government, but still charge high school fees, Radio Voice of Hope reports.

Head teachers around the state want a review of the way primary schools exams are set.

Emmanuel Olupot, Headmaster of Wau Junior Academy, says state primary exams do not test pupils thinking.

He says local education officials should ensure that primary leaving exams are standardized so that students who go to secondary schools are qualified.

Education officials say many schools in Wau are struggling to adjust to the new schools syllabi in English.

Since private schools have not improved the quality of education, the government will withdraw some of their licenses, they warned.
