Drivers of public transport in Abyei on Wednesday staged a strike against a local order issued by the executive director imposing 30 Pounds fees for every car getting out of the park.

Many passengers who came to travel to Annet and Agok areas within Abyei Administrative Area are stranded as drivers count their first day strike, Radio Voice of Hope reports.

Ayuel Thiik wants to travel from Abyei to Agok, but could not get any means as usual.

Drivers say they get little profit from travel counts within Abyei and such charges on them will make more harm.

Kuot Lual is one of the drivers on strike. He says they only make short trips where their passengers pay less than 30 Pounds.

He says from what they make a day, they spend a lot serving their vehicles and buying fuel.

Dominic Deng Wek Transport Union Chairperson says his office was not consulted on the order for imposing departure fees.

He says they are still consulting with the local authorities and the drivers to resolve the issue.

Abyei Executive Director Bokor Mayar could not pick his telephone for comments.
