The National Youth Union urges the government to reverse decision of devaluing South Sudanese Pounds to reduce high cost of consumer goods in the country.

The devaluation of the currency causes a lot of suffering to low income earners, John Sebit Madit the Union’s Secretary for Finance says.

He calls on the government to adopt a policy that does not harm ordinary citizens in the short term, Radio Bakhita reports.

Sebit says government should establish a consumer protection body to safeguard consumers from exploitation by businesses.

The Central Bank adopted a floating foreign exchange rate policy.

The policy gives one US Dollar a value of at least 18.5 South Sudanese Pounds.
