Nearly 300 water pipes got burned on Friday at Hai Darajat in Wau town.
The cause of the fire has not been established, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
One of the eye witnesses suspected street children cooking food under truck scrap near the pipes.
Fr George Keini Kunnel says he made attempts to mobilize some children to save the situation when he saw smoke near St Joseph’s School.
Bol Malauhe, the Civil Defence Director admits their failure to rescue the situation.
The fire was put off after an hour.
