The new dollar rate is economic tragedy, shocking and disturbing, says Community Empowerment for Progress Organization Director.

Edmond Yakani says the new dollar rates will not benefit normal South Sudanese but only hard currency dealers, Radio Bakhita reports.

He says strengthening South Sudanese Pounds requires investing on economic activities such as system of revenues.

Yakani calls on parliamentarians to deliberate and carry out public opinion on the move.

On Tuesday, the Central Bank abolished the fixed exchange rate policy for the South Sudanese Pounds to the US Dollar.

One US Dollar is now buying officially at 18.5 South Sudan Pounds.
