University professors discuss ways to save local languages from death

Western Bahr El-Ghazal State University intellectuals and students discuss causes of slow down in the development of African languages.
 
They say some native languages are rarely written or even spoken, Radio Voice of Hope reports.
 
They fear such languages may die soon.
 
Arts and Cultural Commissioner, Derick Uya Alfred, says writing local languages can retain national identity for the next generation.
 
He says intellectuals recommend that all languages should be developed in South Sudan.
 
Assistant Professor, Clement Moroba all South Sudanese languages either for minority or majority should be developed.
 
He fears some languages in the country might die if not put in writing.
 
One of the lecturers, Erneo Chan, says he has few books to be update for teaching at schools.
 
Africa has few written native languages.
