Sudd Institute Policy Analyst in Juba has asked the government to trust and cooperate with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS to foster successful peace agreement implementation.
Speaking during a public lecture on the role of UN in post-conflict reconstruction, Zakaria Diing Akol says UNMISS’ new mandate hurts relationship between the government and the Mission, citing the regime viewing unarmed aerial drones monitoring violence with suspicion, Radio Bakhita reported.
The Analyst says the peace agreement offers a new opportunity for the country to rebuild itself and refocus on shortfalls in previous governance since the independence declaration.
Public debate panelist Lona James acknowledges the crucial contribution of UNMISS to South Sudan development since its establishment.
She says much more is needed in institutional capacity building to prevent return to violence.
