Voice for Change Gender Based Violence or GBV Project Coordinator encourages women not to endure oppression by keeping quiet, but sue in-laws to court in case of chaos over inheriting deceased husbands’ property.

Dorothy Drabuga Ambrose says some men in South Sudan deny women the right to inherit husbands’ or fathers’ property.

She recommends the need to create community awareness to eliminate cultural beliefs that do not conform to constitutionalism.

South Sudan Transitional Constitution, 2011 Article 16 (5) states ‘Women shall have the right to own property and share in the estates of their deceased husbands together with any surviving legal heir of the deceased’.
