Teachers in Yei of Central Equatoria State’s on Thursday celebrated World Teachers’ Day at Yei Freedom Square under the theme: ‘Empowering teachers, building sustainable societies’.
Addressing the Day, Teachers’ Professional Union Chairperson Yusto Dada stresses the need to improve education through motivation, allowances, timely pay of salaries, recruitment and training of more teachers, Radio Easter reported.
County Secondary Schools Inspector Emmanuel Peter urges the government to invest on teachers to realize quality delivery of educational services.
The Inspector reports that the number of learners in Yei increased from 36 thousand in 2013 to 61 thousand this year, calling for urgent intervention.
The World Teachers’ Day was marked with marching of learners and teachers in Yei municipality.
