Bahr El Ghazal University Workers Trade Union established an adult literacy class to help its support staff to read and write.
Some learners including a 60-year old Angelo Makwie have the courage to fight illiteracy, hoping to reach University as long as his sight can allow him to read and write, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
The Union Chairperson Malual Majok says the initiative ams to minimize time and effort wasting in the interpretation during meetings with support-staff and ensure that they communicate effectively in English.
One of the English instructors, Philip Kwol, says the learners are responding better but subjects like science and social studies are a challenge for most of them.
A 53-year old Michael Kong, who work as a builder at the University for more than ten years joined adult literacy class in 2013 and now has reached level four.
The Adult literacy class at University is made up of level one and two, where support staffs including cleaners, security guards, cooks and drivers who did not attend classes or dropped out of school are sitting in front of the chalkboard.
The literacy class was establish since 2010, but could not bring up staff as challenges of classes and working conditions.
