African Union or AU Chairman and Zimbabwean President openly at the UN General Assembly in New York said his country will not accept homosexuality.
Robert Mugabe says they reject attempts to prescribe new rights contrary to their values, norms, traditions and beliefs.
He argues that homosexuality is illegal in Zimbabwe, saying previously those of homosexual orientation were lower than “pigs, goats and birds”.
Last year, Mugabe said gay rights were not human rights, adding Zimbabwe would never let children grow up thinking there was an alternative to the God-prescribed marriage system.
Several United Nations agencies have reportedly condemned recent remarks on gay marriage.
A News Day report on Monday said Mugabe’s tough stance against homosexuality angered donors, who have since signed a statement condemning member states still discriminating on grounds of sexual orientation.
The agencies including the UN Development Programme, Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO and Children’s Fund were the country’s leading humanitarian aid providers.
