SPLM/A-In Opposition leader, designated First Vice President under August 17th and 26th Compromise Peace Agreement says President Salva Kiir’s creation of 28 states in the Republic of South Sudan is unilateral and a clear violation of the Peace Agreement on the resolution of conflict based on ten states.
Dr Riek Machar in a statement, CRN secured, writes that federalism is a popular demand of South Sudanese since 1947 that SPLM/A-IO championed before the compromise deal to realize a ‘Democratic Federal State’ based on 21 demarcated former British Colonial Districts.
He calls on IGAD Plus and the International Community to take a position on President Kiir’s unilateral action.
Dr Machar says he has convened an emergency meeting of SPLM/A-IO National Liberation Council on October 20th to decide on the move and its implications.
