UNAMID pays last respect to South African peacekeeper

African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operations in Darfur or UNAMID on Wednesday paid its last respect to the South Africa peacekeeper, Toto Tom Malashe, who was killed on September 27 by unidentified gun men while on patrol in Mellit, North Darfur.
 
In a note CRN got on Thursday, UNAMID Force Commander, Lieutenant General Paul Mella presided over the memorial ceremony at the Mission headquarters in El Fasher, North Darfur.
 
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in a statement strongly condemns the attack and extends condolences to the South African government, people and the family of the late peacekeeper, wishing the wounded person speedy recovery.
 
He appeals to Sudanese authorities to investigate the incident and bring the persons responsible of the attack to justice as soon as possible.
 
Secretary-General also calls on Darfur conflicting parties to respect peacekeeping force integrity.
