Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO Executive Director describes August as a dark month for journalists in South Sudan, wishing that September will never be the same.

Edmond Yakani cites closure of media houses by security personnel in August, including Citizens Newspaper, killing the Corporate Newspaper journalist and disappearance of another journalist in Budi County and many threats against them.

He urges the government to observe freedom of expression and access to information’s rights.

Mr Yakani also appeals to the government to allow the media laws to function and use legal procedures if a journalist commits a mistake.

Safety and security of journalists is now a major constraint in South Sudan manifested by rampant killings, harassments, intimidations, arbitrary arrests and detentions without trial.
