Eastern Equatoria State Governor says opposition leader Dr Riek Machar lacks commitment to implement the recently signed Compromise Peace Agreement.

Louis Lobong Lojore told the press on Wednesday that the opposition force claimed to have captured places in Eastern Equatoria, accusing it of contradicting peace by mobilizing and planning attacks on the state, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He asks the opposition leader to justify his accusation that the government killed 600 political detainees and that as a vice president by virtue of the peace agreement, Dr Machar should talk directly to the president on security matters instead of using the media.

The State Governor notes that a call by some commanders for another agreement brings uncertainty on Dr Machar’s leadership over opposition forces, calling for start of confidence building for national unity.

Governor Lobong calls on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development and the international community to ensure the two parties respect and commit to peace.

He says the state started disseminating the agreement for the people to own and begin healing, reconciliation and forgiveness process to rebuild broken relations.

The Governor says people of Eastern Equatoria state are ready to welcome back home those who join the rebellion for various reasons.
