Elders of the former Torit District on Tuesday marked Torit uprising of 1955 also known as Torit Mutiny against the Khartoum regime.
Member of Parliament in the National Legislative Assembly representing Torit County Tulio Odongi Ayahu on behalf of the elders congratulated the veterans who staged the mutiny, Radio Bakhita reported.
The 1955 Torit uprising took place just a year before the Sudan attains its independence from British colonizers.
The mutiny led to the Anya Anya Movement that ended by the signing of the Addis Ababa Peace Agreement between General Joseph Lagu and the former President late Jaafar Mohammed Nimeri in 1972.
