Western Equatoria Health Ministry Director General Victor Furangi warned during the launch of World Breastfeeding Week on Friday in Yambio under the theme: ‘Breastfeeding and work’ that restricting babies from breast milk is a serious crime.
UNICEF Health Officer Dr Daniel Drichi urges institutions to support working mothers by giving them maternity leave accordingly, Radio Anisa reported.
He urges communities to consider giving lactating mothers priority in any public service.
Health Ministry Head of Nutrition Department Ismalla Mbugo said the first ten days of August are dedicated worldwide for sensitizing the public on the importance of breastfeeding.
She advised that breast feeding helps both the child and the mother, urging working class mothers to breastfeed their children during working hours.
Acting Health Minister Jackcelia Ebere advises mothers to breastfeed babies for six months for strong health babies.
