United Nations Population Fund or UNFPA marking International Youth Day celebration on Wednesday under the theme: ‘Youth Civic Engagement’ warns that denying young people the right to decision-making is a gross violation of their human rights and a failure of the democratic process.

UNFPA in a statement on Tuesday observes that it is a waste of human resources that can propel nations towards development and that young people are driving change towards a better future for all in the world.

It notes that youth are leading global action on climate change, end discrimination, speaking out to uphold democracy and the freedom of speech, connecting the world with innovations in information technology and building peace in war-affected societies.

UNFPA directs young people to be the strongest partners if peace and security are to win out war, especially in the world of increasing conflict.

It expresses the need for youth fullest capability and broadest engagement for people, the planet, prosperity to flourish and their protection from violence, right to access education, health services and reproduction.
