The National and Central Equatoria State Education Ministries in partnership with United Nations Children agency or UNICEF are on Friday expected to launch Girls Education Day and Girls’ Education Strategy at Gudele East Primary School in Juba.

The notice CRN obtained on Thursday says the day aims at creating awareness on the importance of girls’ education and explore additional learning opportunities and support.

The day is also expected to witness development of South Sudan’s first ever Girls’ Education Strategy to increases enrolment.

The day was first celebrated nationally in 2006 and became critical in changing attitudes and lowering barriers to girls’ education.

The Girls’ Education Day was first declared by Dr John Garang De Mabior in 2004.
