The Association for Media Development in South Sudan or AMDISS on Tuesday condemned government closure of The Citizen Newspaper with verbal instruction to stop printing.

AMDISS Chairman Alfred Taban expresses deep concern over the shutdown of The Citizen Newspaper without reason, saying the act infringes flow of information and undermines the development of media in the country.

He in a statement says ‘If there is any issue that needs to be addressed, there must be a better mechanism to do so rather than a closure’.

AMDISS appeals to concerned government authorities to refer to media laws for any action and should reconsider their move to allow the newspaper run as soon as possible.
