Wau Health Science Institute on Wednesday graduated its first batch of ten male and eight female midwives after three-year midwifery course in Western Bahr El Ghazal State.
Midwifery School Director Abdin Paden said the course began in 2011 with 25 students, but that due to some challenges seven dropped out, appreciating the graduates for persevering to the end, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
Western Bahr El Ghazal Health Minister Isaac Cleto Hassan expressed happiness for having additional medical servants ‘who will play great role in decreasing mortality rate in the state particularly and South Sudan in general’.
Graduate’s representative Joseph Ukelo pledged their commitment to practice the knowledge they gained to save lives of mothers and babies, appealing to the national Health ministry to motivate the graduates by upgrading the midwifery.
Wau Health Science Institute was established in 1994 and is supported by UNFPA in collaboration with Western Bahr El Ghazal State Health Ministry.
