Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio HIV/AIDS Department has offered nutrition training to 44 members of three support groups in Western Deanery living positive with the virus.

Field Officer David Miamangawai says they trained 18 participants in Source Yubu on Thursday and 26 from Tombura and Maringindo Parishes on Friday on the importance of proper nutrition, Radio Anisa reported.

Catechist Miamangawai recommends HIV survivors to eat local fruits and vegetables regularly to make their bodies healthier than ever.

He asserts that food is the first medicine for people living with HIV because it energizes, protects and builds the human body.

Tombura Participant John Mbiwa says balance diet is necessary and that he learned many ways of cooking cassava leaves to obtain various food nutrients for the body.

Maringindo Participant Helena John appreciates the training where she learned that proper nutrition is essential for long lifespan with HIV.

Western Deanery report shows about 947 people live with HIV including 24 in Maringindo, 275 in Tombura, 212 in Ezo, 183 in Naandi and 253 in Source Yubu plus 72 foreigners from Central African Republic.
