The government of Japan wishes to supply safe drinking water to 390 thousand Juba residents to various homes by the end of September 2017.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Japan Ambassador Kiya Masahiko says they would provide an additional fund for water supply project totaling to 4.4 million Japanese yen equivalent to 40 million US Dollars to improve water supply system in Juba.
The initiative aims to address the cost increase due to the political crisis to improve access to safe water by expanding the capacity of water treatment and scaling up distribution.
Ambassador Masahiko adds that they set up a new water treatment plant, a service reservoir, eight water tank stations and 120 water tapping points in the capital city.
He says the project would also facilitate the healthy and productive life of women and children in communities to engage in other employment opportunities.
Ambassador Masahiko explains that the project would decrease the morbidity from waterborne diseases such as cholera, diarrhea and typhoid.
