University of Juba Director of Centre for Peace and Development Studies says late Dr John Garang and the rest of South Sudanese martyrs would be ‘extremely disappointed by the status of affairs’ in the country after mid December 2013 crisis if they were to attend the fourth independence anniversary next Thursday.

Dr Luka Biong Deng in an opinion publication writes that late Dr Garang would find the country bleeding in war claiming lives and livelihoods of innocent South Sudanese everyday.

He adds that Garang would also find SPLM divided into four factions; SPLM-In Government, SPLM-In Opposition, SPLM-Former Detainees and SPLM for Democratic Change or SPLM-DC.

Dr Biong says promises in the constitution preamble to lay the national foundation for a united, peaceful and prosperous society based on justice, equality, respect for human rights and the rule of law have been violated.

He observes that there are no any other better times to live up to the constitutional commitments to South Sudanese martyrs and citizens than after the independence on July 9th 2011.

Dr Biong however observes if some martyrs and late Dr Garang were to attend the fourth independence anniversary, they would like other living people feel proud that South Sudan is an independent new nation.
