The United Nations Children’s Fund or UNICEF South Sudan Deputy Representative says the use of indigenous languages in schools is an essential for future work in government and UN agencies.
Ettie Higgins vows that UNICEF will continue to work for rights of children in South Sudan, ensuring that every child in the country realizes his or her dream.
She affirms that a study has shown that the use of the mother tongue and other languages of instructions in school also improve cultural lives in communities.
The UNICEF Representative calls on the government to ensure that women and children fully and confidently participate in nation building.
Representative Higgins made the remarks during the opening of four-day National and Foreign Languages Conference in Juba.
